Independent Advertising Consultant

  Hinsdale Magazine Group is seeking Independent Advertising Consultants (1099) who take a consultative, relationship-driven approach to selling and understand the value of integrated media solutions.

About the Role

 Independent Advertising Consultants work directly with local business owners and decision-makers to develop thoughtful, long-term advertising strategies across Hinsdale Magazine Group’s portfolio of print and digital products. This is not a transactional sales role. Consultants are expected to understand client goals, recommend appropriate solutions, and build ongoing partnerships.


We may provide consultants with an initial list of qualified prospects to help them get started. These are prospective advertisers, not existing accounts requiring ongoing management. Over time, consultants are expected to build their own book of business by adding new advertisers to the portfolio.


You can work from home with in-house support for production, design coordination, billing, and scheduling, allowing you to focus on selling and long-term account growth.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and grow a book of business through consultative selling
  • Develop new advertiser relationships while nurturing long-term partnerships
  • Work with clients to create multi-issue, multi-product advertising strategies
  • Present and sell a full portfolio of advertising solutions, including display advertising and editorial-style features
  • Maintain organized records using provided sales materials, tools, and internal systems
  • Collaborate with an in-house team to ensure smooth execution

Sales Structure & Support

Consistency matters when selling our special sections to ensure prospects receive clear, accurate information. We provide sales materials for consultants to use so messaging stays aligned, expectations are set correctly, and conversations remain focused on value. Pricing is standardized, allowing consultants to concentrate on consultative selling rather than negotiating discounts.

What We’re Looking For

This role is a strong fit for professionals who:

  • Have prior experience in advertising, media, or consultative sales
  • Are comfortable selling strategy and value rather than individual placements
  • Are self-motivated, organized, and accountable in a work-from-home environment
  • Understand the importance of brand credibility, consistency, and long-term presence
  • Enjoy working with business owners and professional service providers
  • Prefer autonomy with support rather than micromanagement

This Role Is Not a Fit for You, If:

  •  You prefer a highly structured environment with close, daily oversight
  • You rely on fully scripted sales conversations rather than guided materials
  • You are uncomfortable with commission-based, performance-driven compensation
  • You are looking for a temporary or stopgap role
  • You expect a fully assigned book of business without new-business development

Compensation & Growth

  •   Commission-based (1099) with uncapped earning potential

Writers

Hinsdale Magazine Group is always interested in connecting with experienced freelance writers (1099) who bring clarity, curiosity, and professionalism to their work.


Our publications focus on people, businesses, organizations, and community stories within the areas we serve. Assignments may include profiles, feature stories, interviews, and lifestyle pieces, depending on experience and editorial needs.

What We’re Looking For

  Freelance writers should:

  • Write clearly and confidently for a general readership
  • Be comfortable conducting  interviews and shaping accurate, engaging stories
  • Meet deadlines and respond well to editorial direction
  • Work collaboratively with editors
  • Have experience in magazine, editorial, or professional writing
  • Have a connection to the communities we cover or a strong interest in local storytelling
  • Be able to identify, pitch, and present story ideas to editors


Local or community-focused writing experience is strongly valued.

Photographers

Hinsdale Magazine Group works with freelance photographers (1099) who produce clean, professional imagery suitable for print and digital publication.


Assignments may include portraits, interiors, events, and on-location shoots that support editorial and sponsored content.

What We’re Looking For

  Freelance photographers should:

  • Produce well-composed,  print-ready images
  • Be comfortable photographing  people and spaces on location
  • Understand basic editorial direction and shot lists
  • Deliver high-resolution images on deadline
  • Have experience with editorial or magazine photographyLocal or community-focused writing experience is strongly valued.
