Independent Advertising Consultant

  Hinsdale Magazine Group is seeking Independent Advertising Consultants (1099) who take a consultative, relationship-driven approach to selling and understand the value of integrated media solutions.

About the Role

 Independent Advertising Consultants work directly with local business owners and decision-makers to develop thoughtful, long-term advertising strategies across Hinsdale Magazine Group’s portfolio of print and digital products. This is not a transactional sales role. Consultants are expected to understand client goals, recommend appropriate solutions, and build ongoing partnerships.


We may provide consultants with an initial list of qualified prospects to help them get started. These are prospective advertisers, not existing accounts requiring ongoing management. Over time, consultants are expected to build their own book of business by adding new advertisers to the portfolio.


You can work from home with in-house support for production, design coordination, billing, and scheduling, allowing you to focus on selling and long-term account growth.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and grow a book of business through consultative selling
  • Develop new advertiser relationships while nurturing long-term partnerships
  • Work with clients to create multi-issue, multi-product advertising strategies
  • Present and sell a full portfolio of advertising solutions, including display advertising and editorial-style features
  • Maintain organized records using provided sales materials, tools, and internal systems
  • Collaborate with an in-house team to ensure smooth execution

Sales Structure & Support

Consistency matters when selling our special sections to ensure prospects receive clear, accurate information. We provide sales materials for consultants to use so messaging stays aligned, expectations are set correctly, and conversations remain focused on value. Pricing is standardized, allowing consultants to concentrate on consultative selling rather than negotiating discounts.

  • Have prior experience in advertising, media, or consultative sales
  • Are comfortable selling strategy and value rather than individual placements
  • Are self-motivated, organized, and accountable in a work-from-home environment
  • Understand the importance of brand credibility, consistency, and long-term presence
  • Enjoy working with business owners and professional service providers
  • Prefer autonomy with support rather than micromanagement

This Role Is Not a Fit for You, If:

  •  You prefer a highly structured environment with close, daily oversight
  • You rely on fully scripted sales conversations rather than guided materials

In this role, you will craft stunning layouts, compelling visuals, and innovative digital art that captivate a sophisticated audience. Your work will elevate the magazine’s aesthetic, seamlessly blending branding, typography, and imagery to tell compelling stories of luxury and elegance. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to influence high-end editorial content and push the boundaries of visual storytelling.

Duties

  • Understand our marketplace, client base and develop captivating magazine advertising layouts using industry-standard tools such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Canva ensuring alignment with brand standards and editorial themes
  • Create original digital art, illustrations, and photo manipulations that enhance feature stories and advertisements
  • Design logos, branding elements, and visual assets that reinforce the magazine’s luxurious identity
  • Produce motion graphics and short videos for digital platforms using Adobe After Effects and other motion design software to engage online audiences
  • Collaborate with editors, photographers, and marketing teams to conceptualize and execute visually compelling content across print and digital channels
  • Manage color accuracy and consistency through expert color management techniques in Adobe Creative Suite applications
  • Optimize designs for web using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WordPress, and content management systems to ensure seamless online presentation

Skills

  • Proficiency in graphic design software including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Canva for layout design. 
  • Strong understanding of art direction principles, branding strategies, typography, color theory, and visual storytelling techniques
  • Experience with motion graphics creation in Adobe After Effects and video editing skills for multimedia content
  • Knowledge of web design languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript along with experience managing WordPress sites and content management systems
  • Expertise in digital art creation including illustration, photo manipulation, sign manufacturing concepts, and print advertising production
  • Excellent presentation skills to communicate concepts clearly to clients and team members
  • Ability to produce high-quality visual designs that align with luxury branding standards while managing multiple projects efficiently

Photographers

Hinsdale Magazine Group works with freelance photographers (1099) who produce clean, professional imagery suitable for print and digital publication.


Assignments may include portraits, interiors, events, and on-location shoots that support editorial and sponsored content.

What We’re Looking For

  Freelance photographers should:

  • Produce well-composed,  print-ready images
  • Be comfortable photographing  people and spaces on location
  • Understand basic editorial direction and shot lists
  • Deliver high-resolution images on deadline
  • Have experience with editorial or magazine photographyLocal or community-focused writing experience is strongly valued.
